From Britannia of 1840 to 2004 Queen Mary 2, (shown sailing under the Verrazano Narrows bridge) this magnificent book tells the story of the famous and glamorous Cunarders displayed on board the QE2 and QM2. Throughout the long and distinguished history of the Cunard Line, their ships affectionately known as Cunarders, seen in ports around the world are instantly recognized by their unique “Cunard red” and black funnels. These handsome ships admired by seaman and landlubbers alike from their smaller cargo/passenger steamers like Carpathia to the great North Atlantic liners Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth and their successors, QE2 and QM2; Cunard ships have been splendid examples of the shipbuilder’s art. In 2001 Stephen Card was commissioned by Cunard to paint a series of canvases as part of the permanent art collection to be hung on board QM2. The complete collection has been reproduced in this book and enhanced by an additional ten paintings from the QE2 collection. The illustrations are accompanied on the facing page with historical biographies of the ships and include explanatory notes by the artist. An added chapter by Maurizio Eliseo illustrated with color photos is on “Building the Queen Mary 2”. With the merger of Cunard and White Star in 1934, Cunard acquired her fleet.
