Thrilling Stories of Survivors
With Photographs & Sketches
A classic originally published in 1912 compiled by Logan Marshall, this book was an instant best seller. Salesmen went door to door across the country offering it to a public hungry for details which explains its widespread distribution and likely is responsible for perpetuating myths connected with the ship to this day. Billed as the most authoritative account of the greatest maritime disaster in history was, in reality, a mixture of fact and fiction covered in hyperbole. Nonetheless it is a fascinating historical account of information gathered and published immediately after the sinking when the emotional trauma surrounding the disaster was at its peak. Based on personal testimony of Titanic survivors and newspaper coverage, the book begins with the vessel’s construction, departure from Southampton, to the collision, sinking and the aftermath of the tragedy. Illustrated throughout, this reprint contains original drawings and photos of the great ship and some of its prominent passengers, both those who survived and those who perished on the ill-fated night of April 14-15 1912.
