This expedition took place before there was world-wide Titanic fascination and before Dr Ballard and his team of American and French scientists found the wreck in 1985. Ballard and THS President Bill Tantum began their quest in 1977. When Tantum died in 1980, finding the ship was put on hold and another group searched. Determined to discover the elusive White Star liner, they send their sophisticated sonar and camera equipment into the bone-crushing depths of the frigid Atlantic and are rewarded for their two years of work with results.
